Mission Statement
To establish a continuum of social support and health services to meet the needs of elderly individuals and maximize their independence, enabling them to live successfully on their own terms in their own communities. The goal is to ensure the use of all available resources and serve as an advocate for the elderly population.

CONGREGATE MEALS

AGE RANGE Recipients must be 60+ years of age.
DESCRIPTION Kenneth James Senior Center: Breakfast is served Monday through Friday, 7AM - 9AM.  Hot lunch is served Monday through Friday, 10:45 AM & 11:45 AM.  Hacienda Orgullo: Hot lunch is served Monday through Friday, 11:30 AM
FEES Suggested donations; Breakfast $1.00, Lunch $2.00
Under 60; Breakfast $1.55, Lunch $4.75

HOME DELIVERED MEALS

AGE RANGE 60+
DESCRIPTION Provides for home delivery of hot lunch, sack breakfast for the following day and can provide extra frozen meals on Friday for the following weekend.  This program has been expanded for weekly delivery of breakfast meals and frozen lunches to include the areas of: Animas Canyon, Arrey, Caballo, Derry, Garfield, Hillsboro and Las Polomas.  For additional information, call 894-6641.
ELIGIBILITY Recipients must be 60+, certified as homebound by their physician, unable to drive and have no one living in the home that can prepare meals for them.

ACTIVITIES FOR JOY SENIORS

AGE RANGE 60+ 
DESCRIPTION Activities for "Just Older Youths" are many and varied.  Check the SJOA TIMES and the Senior Moments column in local newspapers for current activities and schedules.

SJOA TIMES

DESCRIPTION The SJOA TIMES newsletter is both informative and educational.  Pick up a copy at the Senior Citizens Program Activity Center, the Senior Recreation Center or the Chamber of Commerce for information and schedules for the many and varied activities planned for senior citizens.

RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

AGE RANGE 55+
DESCRIPTION This program has the dual purpose of engaging persons 55 and older in volunteer service to meet critical community needs and to provide a high quality experience that will enrich the lives of volunteers.

SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAM

AGE RANGE 60+
DESCRIPTION Engages persons 60 and older, particularly those with limited incomes, in volunteer service to meet critical community needs and provides a high quality experience that will enrich the lives of the volunteer.  Program funds are used to support Senior Companions in providing supportive, individualized services to help adults with special needs maintain their dignity and independence.

FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM

AGE RANGE 60+
DESCRIPTION Engages persons 60 and older, particularly those with limited incomes, in volunteer service to meet critical community needs and provides a high quality experience that will enrich the lives of the volunteer.  Program funds are used to support Foster Grandparents in providing supportive, person-to -person service to children having exceptional or special needs. Volunteers are placed in area schools and Headstart programs.

SENIOR TRANSPORTATION

AGE RANGE 60+
DESCRIPTION Door to door transportation to meal site for lunch, errands and medical appointments.  Trips to Las Cruces 1st & 3rd Thursday of each month.  Call 894-6641 to make reservations.

RESPITE CARE

DESCRIPTION Provided for "full time" caregivers of senior 60+ with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia.  Respite care is available for up to six hours daily, Monday through Friday.

HIBAC

DESCRIPTION Health Insurance and Benefits Assistance Corps is a network of trained volunteer counselors who can help determine whether you are receiving all the benefits to which you are entitled and ensures that older New Mexicans receive accurate, unbiased information about health care options and other entitlements

HOMEMAKER SERVICES

AGE RANGE 60+.
DESCRIPTION Services include light housekeeping and cleaning, laundry, shopping and errands, as well as assistance with personal care. Services are provided for 2 or more hours, once a week.
ELIGIBILITY 60+ years of age, live within 5-mile radius of the Senior Center and meet income guidelines.
FEES No fee

INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE

DESCRIPTION Provides assistance with completing Federal and State Income tax returns, February 1 through April 13.
ELIGIBILITY Recipients must be low income and/or senior citizens.
FEES No fee
